Nutrient Film Technique is one of the simplest and most water-efficient ways to grow food. Instead of soil, the roots rest in channels where a thin film of nutrient solution flows past them — and the same water is recirculated again and again. Here is the whole idea in three steps.

Feed the roots
Nutrients dissolved in clean water feed the plants directly — no soil needed.
A thin film of nutrients
The solution flows through the NFT channels in a shallow film that bathes the roots.
Recirculate
The water drains back and is reused again and again, saving up to 90% of it.
Recirculating water
